OK, I think this will work....
Kiva is an organization that allows one to make small loans to various folks around the world. I started with an extra $25 I had and have made 3 loans so far....two of my own money and one from the paid back money.
It works so that the money you invest in others is paid back and you can again loan it to help someone else....if you are interested I hope you check it out. It is easy, and for the cost of a few lattes that you will never miss, you can help make a big difference in someone's life who is, just like you and I, trying to feed their family and grow their tiny little businesses.....
Not a commercial....nothing comes to me except I feel really good knowing others may enjoy this too.

Kiva is an awesome, WORKING and proven concept. I've been making little loans for a couple of years now. I only wish there were more opportunities to support struggling Americans.

ReplyDeleteThe best thing I can think of is to try and buy local and made in the US goods. Many of those things are supporting people directly here...
I haven't looked much here....I somehow have the idea that in the US, we live at such a different standard of living that all you really have to do is be willing to take a service job and you'll eat. We have a marvelous social service system that none of these developing nations have....all we have to do is divert money from military efforts to feeding, caring for and housing people and we would be good to go.
It seems to me that it would do us good to work at the local level and try to loosen up some of the silly laws about tiny business and like Mexico, anyone who wanted to could sell tamales or tacos from a cart...
I believe $25 means a lot less here than it does in a third world country.
We may soon be at that level again here, but we will all be in the need then.
